Adventure on the Water: Our Troop’s Summer Trip to Grimes Canoe Base!

This August, our troop geared up for an unforgettable summer adventure at the historic Grimes Canoe Base! With 11 scouts and 7 leaders ready to take on the water, we packed our gear, loaded up the canoes, and set out for an incredible trip of paddling, teamwork, and outdoor fun.

Smile if you survived the rapids! The whole crew geared up and ready to hit the Buffalo River.

Paddling Through the Wilderness

Located along the beautiful Buffalo River, Grimes Canoe Base offered us the perfect mix of scenic views and exciting river navigation. Paddling with a crew of 18 meant we had an awesome fleet of canoes stretching down the river.

Over the course of our trip, we:

  • Mastered the paddle: Scouts worked in pairs to navigate the river's currents, sandbars, and occasional swift water.
  • Cooperated as a team: With 11 scouts and 7 leaders, we kept a great pace, looked out for one another on the water, and made sure everyone stayed safe and hydrated.
  • Made waves: Between the paddling sessions, we took plenty of breaks to swim, skip rocks, and just enjoy being out on the water.

Developing Skills & Making Memories

Trips like this are where real scouting happens. Our scouts didn't just learn how to steer a canoe; they practiced water safety, outdoor ethics (Leave No Trace), and leadership. Our 7 leaders were right there alongside us, offering guidance, safety support, and maybe a few cheesy jokes along the way!

Whether it was successfully navigating a tricky bend in the river, hanging out by the water, or just enjoying the peace of the outdoors, this August trip is one for the history books.

A huge thank you to all the leaders who volunteered their time to make this trip possible, and to the scouts for bringing their best energy and effort to the river!
